---Newbie Guide---
Thanks to llyuojs
If you're new to Neopets (and presumably if you're reading this guide then you are), the whole thing might seem a bit daunting. There's so many things to do, so much strange language you don't understand, and you feel like a bit of an ignorant pauper. But don't worry! I felt that way too - but after being here a mere three months I already feel like I know enough to talk Neopets with the best of them!
First tip - if you signed up for all those free NPs when you adopted your first pet, you're going to find that your e-mail account is choked with junk mail. Unsubscribe to all of them on their websites, and don't sign up for any other advertisement offers. It's not worth it; there are plenty of other ways to make NPs.
Secondly, there are a few places in the Explore menu you should go to every time you visit, in order to take care of your pet and make money. These are - the free omelette on the Tyrannian plateau, the Tombola on Mystery Island, Coltzan's Shrine and the Fruit Machine in the Lost Desert, and the Healing Springs and the Wheel of Excitement in Faerieland. Most of these are free and result in a few items, some NP, and a healthy, fed and developing pet each week.
Thirdly, join a guild - preferably this one (Treasures of Neopia) :) As a newbie, its so useful to have friends in high places. Use the message board to ask people about anything you don't know - we're really friendly and will be happy to help! Often if there is any item you really need richer members will donate it to you. Also, most guilds contain solutions to the puzzles, such as the Faerie Crossword, which is a really easy way to make at least 600 NP a day. Most importantly, guilds will help you get a feel for what Neopia is really like, and enable you to reach beyond the tip of the iceberg.
Fourthly, don't get tempted! Put your money in the bank and don't buy any expensive items from shops until you're sure you can afford it, and any valuable items you get, such as codestones or faeries, should be placed into your safety deposit box. Learning all about items and how to manage them is one of the biggest facets of life in Neopia.
Fifthly, take care of your pets. Feed them omelettes, and buy them toys, or when you can afford it, a petpet. Heal them when they're sick or low on energy points, and train them up on Mystery Island if you wish. As you get richer and more involved in Neopia, you'll learn there's lots of other things you can do with them, but at the moment don't let this distract you. I'd also recommend sticking to two pets or less at first, otherwise you'll be making too much work for yourself.
Now, with any spare time you have left after all of this :) - explore! Find out what games you like best and which give out the most Neopoints. Read the daily news to see what's happening. Explore the Neopian shops, and get used to working the extremely-useful shop wizard. As you become more advanced, you might like to try opening your own shop, and participating in competitions like Pet Spotlight and the multiplayer games of Kacheekers, Armada and Geos.
Lastly, have fun! When you read all this it makes Neopets sound like hard work, but it's such an involving world that once you're hooked you'll never look back. ;)
